HIMSS Europe Nordic Delegation to HIMSS20

For more than 10 years, healthcare leaders from Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Iceland have come together once a year for an unmatchable event: the HIMSS Global Conference and Exhibition. This HIMSS Nordic Community has grown immensely over the years and the annual gathering has developed into being the must-not-miss event for digital health professionals.

On 9-13 March 2020, the HIMSS Nordic Community will bring together more than 300 healthcare IT professionals from both the public and private sectors from the region for an innovative tailored programme, organised workshops and unlimited networking opportunities in Orlando, Florida.

Nordic Education Programme; "Turning Data into Insights"

New models and tools leveraging on Artificial Intelligence are emerging every day to enable value-based care, consumer engagement, and data analytics of unparalleled proportions, which will radically change how we organize care and population health. The focus of this session is to compare best practices and initiatives from the Nordic countries and as well as from the United States and discuss how to elevate cross-border Nordic collaboration to the next level.

John Halamaka

John Halamka

MD, President, Mayo Clinic Platform, USA

John D. Halamka, M.D., M.S., president of the Mayo Clinic Platform, leads a portfolio of platform businesses focused on transforming health care by leveraging artificial intelligence, connected health care devices and a network of trusted partners. Trained in emergency medicine and medical informatics, Dr. Halamka has been developing and implementing health care information strategy and policy for more than 25 years.

Prior to his appointment at Mayo Clinic, Dr. Halamka was executive director of the Health Technology Exploration Center for Beth Israel Lahey Health in Massachusetts, where he oversaw digital health relationships with industry, academia and government worldwide. He had previously served as chief information officer at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for more than 20 years.


Daniel Forslund

Daniel Forslund

Chairman, Innovation & Development Committee, Region Stockholm, Sweden

Daniel Forslund is Chairman of the Innovation and Development Committee in Region Stockholm, the largest financier and organizer of healthcare in Sweden. In 2014, he was elected to Public Office as Commissioner for Innovation and eHealth, and became politically responsible for initiatives, policies and strategic investments related to digitalization, innovation, medical technologies, eHealth etc.

Mr. Forslund holds a master’s degree in Political Science, and previously worked as Deputy Director at the Health Care Division of the Swedish Ministry of Health and Social Affairs from 2002 to 2011. He has also served as Chief Strategy Officer at VINNOVA, the Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation.

Today, Mr. Forslund is also Chairman of the National Committee for Digitalization within the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions, and is member of the board of Inera, the public company for digital infrastructure in healthcare. He is also a member of the board of the Swedish Institute for Standards (SIS), the official Swedish representative in the international standardization organizations CEN and ISO.


Priit Tohver

Priit Tohver

Advisor for digital service innovation and development, Ministry of Social Affairs, Estonia

Dr Priit Tohver, MD, is the Advisor for E-Services Innovation at the Ministry of Social Affairs in Estonia, overseeing the digital transformation and innovation of health and welfare systems in Estonia. He is part of the core group leading the effort to reform the secondary use of health and social data within Estonia. Priit is also the official representative of Estonia in the eHealth Network and the Global Digital Health Partnership, and thus works closely on cross-border interoperability issues both for the primary and secondary use of health data. Priit is a doctor by training and has previously served as an advisor to the Estonian Mission in Geneva on diplomatic matters related to health, development and trade, covering organizations such as WHO, UNCTAD and WTO. He also has six years of experience as a civil society and global health activist, having also served as the Regional Director for Europe at the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA). He is a member of the World Health Organization Roster of Experts on Digital Health and director of the board at the Digital Health Society.


Michiel van Genuchten

General Manager, Philips VitalHealth and Member of the Editorial Board, IEEE Software

Michiel van Genuchten is the General Manager of the global Enterprise Accounts team at Philips VitalHealth. He has spent 30 years in the healthcare software business at companies such as Straumann (Switzerland) and Philips. He has been a member of the Management Team of VitalHealth Software since 2013, a leading provider of cloud-based population health management solutions for the delivery of personalized care outside of the hospital. He is also a member of the editorial board of IEEE Software.

N!P - Nordic Interoperability Project will be joining the Interoperability Showcase with demonstrations throughout HIMSS20. N!P wants to enable patients to live and act in an open, seamless, cross-border healthcare ecosystem by showcasing world class solutions and innovations from the Nordics.

Open to ALL DELEGATES, this session will showcase innovation from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Sweden and Norway and offer a meeting point for delegates from every corner of the globe to learn from Nordic best practice in healthcare that is patient-centered, population-based and sustainable.

Brought together by HIMSS Nordic Community Organising Committee, this session will showcase individual country progress toward Nordic Council of Ministers’ Vision to build the Nordics into world’s most sustainable and integrated health region by 2030.

HIMSS20 Global Conference & Exhibition is taking place March 9-13, 2020 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, USA.


A room block at the Rosen Plaza hotel has been reserved for delegates joining the HIMSS20 Nordic Delegation. The room block for the Nordic Delegation will be released on February 12th, so make sure to book your room before that!

In order to receive the reduced HIMSS20 Conference pricing you must book your hotel through OnPeak, the official HIMSS20 housing provider. The hotel reservation code to book your hotel room will be provided upon registration to the Nordic delegation in the registration confirmation email. We know many of you prefer to arrive early, but unfortunately, Friday, March 6th and Saturday, March 7th are already sold out. If you are in need of an arrival prior to Sunday, March 8th please complete the following steps to be placed on our waitlist:

  1. Please make your reservation for Sunday, March 8th through your departure date online at https://www.himssconference.org/hotel/book-your-hotel and select Nordic Delegation from the drop down menu (it is the last one on the list). You will need to enter the registration code that was provided in the registration confirmation email.
  2. Once you have a reservation for these nights you can add yourself to the waitlist for earlier nights, if required, by completing this form. Please have your OnPeak ID number from your original reservation (step 1) as you will need it to include in the waitlist form (so we can connect the 2 reservations).
  3. If rooms become available at the Rosen Plaza the list will be cleared in order of when we received the request. If rooms do not become available at the Rosen Plaza, we will confirm your additional nights at a nearby hotel alternative.
